I don't think Hank was racist so much as I think he was classist. He looked down on lower income people because he saw them as junkies and criminals. I think that really shows in how he talks about Wendy and Jesse. He isn't interested in making the streets safer either. Just winning. He's a bully, and while he gets better in that sense, as this video pointed out, he never overcame his own ego.

After seeing this video, I went back and did a re-watch of the episode where Ralph is killed. Something that came to mind, was this odd thing about Ralph wearing a hairpiece. Even when I first saw the episode, and didn't have any considerations about Ralph being anything other than a man, it struck me as odd. I mean, he gets into this knock down, drag out fight with Tony, and the hairpiece never comes loose? It doesn't come off, until they are cutting up his body..? At the time, I just thought this was bad execution. And could not understand why they included it at all. Especially in such a blatantly unrealistic way. I know it's a reach, but now I am wondering if there was an actual reason behind it. I mean... I don't think it's correct to say that Ralph was "the Devil" as such. But I do wonder if they were making intimations about there being something demonic about him. As though now that he was dead, this earthly persona that he had began to come apart. I will admit that I am one of those fans who believe that there were some genuinely supernatural element to the Sopranos story. They were subtle, but I think they were there and intentional. I think that what we see with Tony, is something that we see in a lot of tragic plays, (such as Othello, Macbeth, etc.) Which is that there are forces at work that are always trying to draw Tony to be his worst self. So, I entertain the idea that this was one of those moments. That Ralph served as a resonator for the worst in Tony. He made a lot of money, so Tony tolerated, a lot of things he might not normally. Then, in a fit of rage, he kills a man whose son is in the hospital. Now, Ralph may not have really changed. And he may have set that fire. But Tony did not know any of this for certain. He acted on impulse. So, his murder of Ralph was kind of like an immersion in the darker parts of his self.

I kinda disagree that tony isn't a better person then in the beginning of the series. Yes he still kills and steals and essentially does what he wants, but his outlook on life clearly changed. I think he developed some more empathy for other people and the world. if I were to scale his awfulness out of 10 he went from a 9 to a 8.99, but I do think he became a better person. Still evil, but a slightly less evil.

Tony was right. She knew the deal. She knew the life. Tony is a high value male. He’s earned the ability to have multiple women. She should have accepted that at the end of the day, he comes home to her and that she gets the financial benefits. She’s not missing out on anything.

I’d understand your point if that was just banter with Gomez since that’s his best friend. But his casual racism spills over into his police work too. You see this in the way his co-workers are unimpressed by his attitude in El Paso. He has no respect for Mexican culture or the Spanish language.

I have so much nostalgia for the Sopranos and need to rewatch the series from start to finish again. It was the first mature audiences TV show that my parents allowed me to watch, and we all got hooked together. I was in 6th grade when it began and had just finished my freshman year of college when it ended. I was basically the same age as AJ and identified with that character almost to the letter.

Feech's biggest issue was his massive ego. He got pissy when Tony got more laughs telling a joke than he did at the executive game, so he figured he'd show Tony a thing or (2) by robbing Doctor Freed's daughter's wedding then sending the cars to be chopped by NY instead of Jersey. "Sorry, Godfather, he was at the game. I thought he was just another pigeon.." Yeah right. You knew GD well what you were doing Feech. Undermining the boss and poisoning the well pissing in the younger guys ears? Feech is lucky he only wound up back in his cell. He just as easily could have wound up at the bottom of a lake in Pine Barrens.

you actually can put people like tony and melfi in a box marked good and bad. maybe melfi thought a healthier tony could do his job with a lower death toll than depressed tony? she represents good because, for a living, she seeks truth and tries to heal. he represents evil because his job is literally to lie and murder. unless you're not defining good and evil from a traditional biblical perspective, I guess.

Lalo did have his flawless but there were badass scenes in Better Call Saul with him that I liked like him taking down the mercenaries and falling down from the ceiling and holding the employee guy at gun point. The reason I stopped watching Better Call Saul is not because I didn’t like the show anymore or because of Lalo Salamanca, I stopped watching the show because the pace was slowing down making it hard to watch for me. I agree with you about Lalo Salamanca being a primary focus and cartel, with him not getting Jimmy to admit he lied to him and the extra unnecessary scenes like the sewer and his trip to Germany. I will have to disagree on his friendship with Nacho, being a clown which is not true, the scene where he fights the mercenaries and the parts where he makes in impact by taking out a main character because he ends up killing Howard Hamlin who is a main character which put an impact in the show for that reason. Could they make Better Call Saul mostly about Jimmy McGill for the most part like they did for Walter White in Breaking Bad? Yes, however we needed more depth in the show with the cartel and Gus Fring’s rivalry with them since Gus hates Hector Salamanca and wants revenge on the cartel for all the terrible things they did to him.

The sheer audacity of saying Jimmy owning the consequences was an admission that Chuck was right about him while outright ignoring the fact that he had to face his *regrets* to do that, which is the one thing Chuck told him *never* to do, so much that he was willing to kill himself just to hammer the point home, is downright flabbergasting. And Chuck didn't think the law was sacred. He's guilty of perjury, arson, fraud by omission and petty theft, *just* in the time that we see of him. Jimmy admitting to the courtroom that he ratted out Chuck to the insurance firm and calling what he did a crime in spite of the fact that legally speaking, Chuck was in the wrong there, was a direct refutation of Chuck's black and white moral code that not even Chuck himself could ever live up to. Everything Chuck said about the law was utter bs to mask his hubris and pride. He and Walter are cut from the exact same cloth, which by the way, was the whole point of Walt's "So you were always like this." line. Walt was always the monster he is. Chuck was always the monster he is. Jimmy was made in Chuck's image.

Ray is one of the most well written characters in the history of TV show writing. It’s hard to make such a brash and vulgar character so likable and relatable. The fact that Ed Burns fought in Nam and the actors actually went through military training highlights the short comings of modern movies, shows and actors; it’s hard to write compelling characters if you have a lack of life experience.

It's worth mentioning that in 2004, the Gambino Crime Family had about 150-200 made members. If we call the Soprano Family a "glorified crew", if we cut their numbers in half, that's still 100 made guys, including captains and family adminstration. There's probably plenty of people that were never shown on screen or got maybe a few seconds of screen time. Most notably, Pussy Malanga who's only screen time was in a 5 second news clip. Or the old guys who were with Junior in Vesuvio like the one that says "Pussy has been eating here all his life. It's where he feels safe." These characters are more than likely made due to their relevance in the first episode but never get more screen time than that.
